Mavanje kumbare (Burning the Shrovetide fire) is a practice of lighting ritual fires, which takes place as an integral part of customary-ritual activities within the celebration of Bele Poklade or Pročka (part of Shrovetide) in Sirinićka Župa region. The local name of the custom is mavanje kumbare or just mavanje, and it takes place in the late afternoon of the Shrove Sunday.
The first part of the ritual is waving of kumbara torches (mavati is local expression for waving a flag or a torch) either in front of the houses or while walking down the narrow alleys. After that the locals gather in the center of the settlement, and everyone brings one or more of the kumbara torches for their household. Lighting the torches is an individual act, meaning that villagers are standing next to each other but light their torches on their own, making a large number of individual fires, i.e. torches or flares.
