Knowledge and skills of making ojice lace (Знања, умећа, вештине израде ојица)

Кратак опис:

The production of ojice, a special type of lace used in Bosniak women’s costume to decorate the edges of the scarves “šamija” (yellow, green or brown scarves worn by women every day) and “parlanta” (white silk scarves worn by the bride and by younger women on festive occasions) as well as so-called “tucked-in shirts”, include the knowledge and skills of making decorative lace by using a needle with silk thread.

The type of needle also determines the technique of production, so there are techniques of making it with mekik (also known as čantal, čunak or čunče), sewing needle, “eagle needle” and knitting needle for crocheting (heklica). In many cases a combination of these techniques is used. Today the clothing items decorated with ojice are worn by brides and women participating in the wedding ritual, as well as at other family and social gatherings.
