Singing along a bee swarm is part of custom practice including performing ritual songs at the time when bees are swarming, while they are being enticed in order to be caught into a beehive named trmka. During the course of singing the bees are sprinkled with water, while the queen bee is paid special attention and addressed with honor, in order to ensure that she will enter the provided hive.
Singing along a bee swarm used to be limited by weather conditions to the period between St. George’s Day (May 6th) and August. As part of heritage of beekeeping families it was preserved in Serbian villages of the central part of Kosovo and Metohija
